LONDON. May 18. A Rome message statas that Signor Giolitti will make a public statement that he believes it is possible to obtain from Austria concessions sufficient to avert war, but once war is inevtiable he will support the Cabinet. The Austrian Consulates have notified their countrymen to be ready to leave at a moment's notice. Many have alreadv denarted. COPENHAGEN, May 18. LONDON, May 18
Dr Dillon, the war correspondent, says that only when Austria nad definitely refused to make any acceptance of the concessions and the Triple Alliance was denounced was it that Italy entered into a binding accord with the Entente with a view to avoiding perilous isolation. Whereupon Germany roused Austria to make belated advances. These concessions wore first j circulated among Italians by German agents, and atter that were formally communicated to Signor Sonnino after the Opposition Press had assailed the Cabinet on the ground that it would be folly to reject them. GENEVA, May 18. Train-loads of Italian soldiers and war material are hurrving towards the Tyrol. Ib is estimated that 1,700,000 men have been mobilised. ROME, May 18. The Messagero states that a company of Austrians crossed the frontier near Togno. Alpine troops fired on them and charged the Austrins, who retreated, losing one prisoner.
