GUN- CLUB MATTERS
A special meeting of the Manaia Gun ._"? _ t0 _. make arrangements for the £2o shooting matches to be held on Wednesday, 28th, was held in the Manaia Hotel on Friday evening, when Mr John Russ.Jl presided over a good attendance. Notification was received trom the New Zealand Gun Club that the club s application to hold the matches on the 28th inst. was granted' A letter was received from the private secretary to Her Excellency the Countess of Liverpool, acknowledging the receipt of the clubfe donation of twelve guineas to the Belgian and Ser.vian Relief Funds, seven guineas of which were allocated to- the Belgian £und, and five guineas to. the Servian Relief Fund. The letter, in thanking the club for their donation, stated that all such moneys are forwarded direct to the High Commissioner, who in turn hands them to the Minister of the country concerned, while His Excellency the Governor informs the Secretary of State for the Colonies of the actual amounts transmitted. : Donations of prizes to be shot for were acknowledged from Messrs J. J Meldon, E. Long; Dr. Noonan, and Alex. Johnston.
It was decided that a public risk accident policy be taken out for all matches held during the season. The luncheon on the opening day (Wednesday, 28th) was offered as a gift by Mr and Mrs J. Russell, of the Waimate Hotel.
It was resolved that the nomination fee being £1 ss, a double entry for one shooter be £2. The following new members were elected: Messrs V. H. Taylor, J. Steele, S. Davies, A. Hansen, J. Hyndmah, and F. Pmeee (Kaponga). Mr A. Hansen gave a trophy to be. presented to the members introducing the largest number of new members for the season. Nominations for the big match are coming in freely^ and the secretary (Mr S. J. Phipns) has all arrangements well in hand. METHODIST PARSONAGE.
At a-recent meeting of the managers of the Manaia Methodist Church, it was decided to hold a bazaar early in July, in aid of building a new parsonage. At a later meeting, it was resolved to apply to the church and loan building fund for an advance of £300 towards the proposed new building, which is estimated to cost about £650.
