In the Magistrate's Court on Tuesday G. D. McKenzie obtained judgment for £6 8s 6d against Robert Clarke. The defendants Christian name was inadvertently omitted from the report. Owing to the increase in the prices of flo.ur, butter, eggs, sugar, etc., the price of cakes, tarts, and other confectionery dainties in Wellington is to be increased by 10 per cent. In future (says the Post), instead of seven cakes* being given for sixpence, as in the past, they will cost one penny each. A letter from the Hawke's Bay Hospital Board, enquiring if the Hawera Hospital Board had made any provision for the treatment of maternity cases, led to a little discussion at this morning's meeting of the Board as to the advisableness of doing something to meet such eases when they arose. The chairman (Mr Tayler) remarked that he thought the time would come when the Board would have to make provision for dealing with maternity cases. The feeling of the members was rather favorable to considering the question, and it was agreed to discuss it at a special meeting on the Bth April. When the remains of the victims of the recent drowning accident in the Auckland district were taken to the cemetery for interment, it was found that the graves had been dug to a depth of only three feet. The service bad to be conducted before the coffins! were lowered, and afterwards, wheni the Toeople had gone, the drivers of the' coaches and the undertakers dug the graves to the usual depth.
