NEWSPAPER PROMPTINGS.
INTERVENTION URGED.
ROME, March 16,
II Message™ says that the Allies have planned a military expedition to take Constantinople,, and asks: Does this arrangement exclude Italy entirely, or almost, from the partition of Turkey, which will be the basis of arrangement in the Eastern Mediterranean? This would be a grave declaration for Italy, whose policy lacks the promptness necessary for great achievements.
Le Couriere d'ltalia advises war at any cost, and remarks: Mobilisation is intended as a defence of Italian interests against Austria's attempts to prevent Italy maintaining the position she is entitled to in the surrounding seas. .
Ravante, the Italian Socialist organ, declares that Austria is prepared to cede Trentino and Trieste and the hinterland to Italy in return for a continuance of neutrality.
M. Maeterlinck is on a mission to Italy. He announces that the Belgians henceforth will have the fullest sympathy with the Italians.
