ENTERTAINMENTS.

OPERA HOUSE PICTURES

The new programme at the Opera House on Monday evening comprised an excellent selection of pictures, which were cordially received by an appreciative audience. The Lyric Orchestra provided good music, which added to the enjoyment of the evening. The programme will be repeated to-night.

DOROTHY O' THE HALL

NELLIE STEWART.

Miss Nellie Stewart, who will appear at the Opera House, Hawera, on Thursday (March 18th) in the great historical costume play "Dorothy o' the Hall," retains her hold upon the affections of theatre-goers as str.ongly as ever; According to the Melbourne Argus, "Miss Stewart looks as young as • ever. She was applauded and cheered for nearly five minutes." The Sydney Daily Telegraph said: "No more popular artist has trod the colonial stage. Miss Stewart exhibited all those charms and graces which have endeared her to the-atre-goers." The Sydney Sun said: "Nellie Stewart, in a coquettish mood, has always been inimitable, and she is so still. The vivacity of her temperament cannot fade, and pathos is as easy to her as merriment." Miss Stewart lias full scope for her admirable talents as Dorothy Vernon —as the wayward, wilful, lovable madcap, she has a part in which she fairly revels. The play itself is a most fascinating one, packed full of exciting scenes and teeming with delightful comedy. One of the most stirring incidents is the duel wnich Dorothy fights with Malcolm Vernon in the attempt to save the life of Mary Queen of Scots." Miss Stewart is an expert., swordswoman, and rhe duel is said to be one of the mos,t thrilling scenes ever witnessed on the stage. The full company, which recently appeared with such striking success in Australia and more recently in Auckland, will appear in the cast.

The box plans are now open at Cole and Donuelly's, where there has been heavy booking.
