LONDON, March 15
The Hartdale's captain disregarded the order to stop, zigzagged for an hour until overtaken, and then skilfully manoeuvred, preventing the submarine aiming until the latter came so close that escape* was impossible and torpedoed at close range. The captain and three others were picked up in the water exhausted.
