Received Dec. 10, 12.30 p.m. SYDNEY, Dec. 10. In the Council, an amendment altering the fixed pries oi seized wheat from five shillings to, six shillings was negatived by 23 votes to 10. The Bill was then amended, leaving it open to the seller to appeal to the Commodities Commission, which body is given power to. increase the Government price after hearing evidence. Mr. Flowers intimated that the Government did not want to seize all wheat unless it was •necessary, and farmers could sell unseized wheat where they liked. The Council passed the Taxation Bills and the House accepted the Council's amendments. The session has ended and Parliament has been adjourned to January 27th. The Commodities Commission recommended the Government to issue a proclamation against the increased prices of beer and spirits, bnt *uo action has yet been taken. MELBOURNE, Dec. 10. Mr Pearce has emphatically denied a rumor that the Australasians iii Egypt, have, been engaged against the enemy. Captain Glossop, of the Sydney, in his official report, estimates * that the Emden's losses were approximately' seven officers and 108 men killed, three officers and 53 men wounded, of whom one officer and three men died. He took the survivors, numbering 211, aboard the Sydney under the strict pro. mise of the Emden's captain that all would be amenable to the ship's discipline en route to Colombo. The Emden's Tanding party consisted of three officers and forty men, who escaped in the schooner Ayesha. They had four maxims and two belts of cartridges for each. j
