BRITISH ADMIRAL IN COMMAND

■Rear-Admiral Sir Frederick Charles Doveton Sturdee, whose squadron has disposed of Germany's Pacific cruisers, commanded the British force in Samoa in 1899, and was decorated for his service there. He also served in thel Egyptian war in 1882; was Chief of the Staff of the Mediterranean fleet, 1905----7; Chief of the Staff of the Channel Fleet in 1907; and A.D.C. to the King, 1907-8. The Scharnhorst was completely relfitted and re-boilered last year at Kiaochau, recently captured from Germany by a combined British and Japanese force.
