THE NAVAL ACHIEVEMENT
THE ADMIRALTY'S MESSAGE. TBIiBQKJkPB —PUBBS ASSOCIATION. WELLINGTON, Dec. 10. The text of the cable received by the ♦Governor from lit. Hon. Lewis Hardcourt (Secretary of State for the Colonies) is as follows: The Admiralty announce that on the morning of December 8 the Schafnhorst, Gneisenau, .Nuremburg, Dresden, and Leipsig were lighted near the Falkland Islands by the British squadron under ViceAdmiral Sturdee. An action followed, and the Scharnhorst, flying the flag- of Vice-Admiral yon Spec, the Gneisenau, and the Leipsig were all sunk. The Dresden and Nuremburg are being pursued . Two colliers were captured. Our casualties are very slight. Some survivors were rescued from the Gneisenau and Leipsig. The action took place at 7.30 on the morning of the oth.
