TRADE WITH SAMOA

SYDNEY, Dec. 9

A Sydney business man, who has returned from Samoa, says that trade previously held by the Germans is barred by the "fact that since the territory h.f>; s been occupied by the New Zealand Expeditionary £ 0r66 no d " ra fj. remittances or coin could be sent out. Consequently merchants anxious to purchase Australian goods could only pay in produce, but while the market price remained at low figures the producers refused to barter.. Meantime shipments were going to America. He was afraid that America would capture trade legitimately belonging to Australia. He suggests that the authorities be asked to issue drafts, or to establish a bank in Apia.
