OKAIAWA.
(From Our Own Correspondent "i
If the attendances at political meetings held in Okaiawa can be taken as a criterion, a great many of the electors of .this district take little or no interest in the political situation. This applies particularly to the ladies, the greatest number of whom at any meeting could be counted upon one's fingers. A large number of electors have not attended the meetings of either candidate, while others only take a'one-sided interest by attending those of their own particular candidate. I am not hitting off at anybody, these remarks applying to both sides.
■ The present showery weather is anything but welcome to the farmers. Root crops now require weeding and thinning, and, with the hay and ensilage making looming up in the near future, it is most important that this work should be pushed on with. We have had a most welcome rain, and now a dry spell would be equally welcome. A reminder is given of the gift auction in aid of the relief fund on Monday. Stock will be offered at the close of the ordinary sale in the yards, and in the eA^ening a jumble sale will be held in the hall. Donations on a liberal scale have been made, and a successful sale is assured.
