PECULIAR MISHAP.
.WELLINGTON, Oct. 22
An imnsual"accident,-fortunately attended -by no very serious consequences, took place in Manners street this afternoon. A man commenced to crank'up^his motor-car, but had accidentally Eft the • gear • on. After the second or-thmTtirrn, the car made a sudden bound for ward. It knocked the man down, and' careered down the street at a fair pace. The man managed to cling on under the machine, and uttered loud "cries for help. There was imminent'danger of' the car colliding with a tram • post' or a vehicle, but before the car had" gone very far an onlooker gave chase and jumped into it. He managed" to put on the b~ake, and reverse' the K engine, and the cKver crept out'from under the car. His clothes were torn-to tatters, and hs was suffering-from shock", but no bones were broken.
