A cable has been. received by the Russian Consul from the Imperial Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the effect that the. Czar has consented to allow, all Russian reservists desirous ot doing so to join the New Zealand expeditionary forces.
DUNEDIN, Oct! 21
Seven contractors tendered for the fitting out of the Verdala as a troopship. The successful, tender, it-is understood, was close on £7000.
AUCKLAND, Oct. 21
The price of-.'-flour was raised by 10s a ton to £12 ss, net cash. The bakers meet immediately to make a proportionate increase in the price of bread.
A large gathering of citizens' was held to-day to inaugurate a campaign for assisting the Belgians. A strong committee was appointed. Subscriptions are pouring in to the funds organised by the acting-Consul for Belgium and the .New Zealand Herald. The sum of £25,000 tf ill probably be the objective of the movement.
