The prospects of New Zealand meat as a food supply for the Continent of Europe were referred to by Major Norton in an address given before the Wellington Chamber of Commerce. He stated that after the war it was almost certain that Germany and France would both be thrown open for imports of frozen meat. Germany had for years been literally starving for meat. The merchants andl working classes had been clamouring for imported meat, and only the fact that the Government was dominated by the agrarian- and military parties had kept it fi-om being allowed. The strength of the^ Socialist Party in Germany was, said, largely due to the attitude of the party in regard to food supply.
