WELLINGTON, Oct. 17

At the Supreme Court to-day His Honor the Chief Justice (Sir Robert Stout) sentenced Walter Edward Rice to four months' imprisonment on a charge of theft at Otaki. James Marshall de Courcy, a -newly-married man, was ordered to come up for sentence when called upon on five charges of forgery at Wellington. Charles Ridley Cooke, late secretary of the Marton. Farmers' Union, pleaded guilty to failing to account for £228 collected from various funds. Counsel applied for probation, stating that accused's lapse was due to a heavy outlay caused by serious illness in his family. The Judge pointed out limb the offences had extended over a period of two years, and deferred pronouncing sentence "til! Monday.
