GOOD RAINS IN AUSTRALIA.

SYDNEY, Oct. 18

The drought has broken and the best rain since March has been experienced over the greater part of New South Wales. The Riverina is practically the only district so far which has not participated. Still there are showery conditions in the Riverina and elsewhere, including Victoria, South Australia, southern Queensland, which benefited to a less extent, are favorable for further rain. The outlook generally is greatly improved, and there are good hopes that yesterday's pessimistic wheat crop forecasts will be considerably brightened.

There was an incessant downpour in Sydney yesterday, and all sports, including Tattersall's races, had to he postponed.

Heavy rain continues.. The area is widening, and the Riverina is participating now. .. •
