WAIROA, Oct. 18

About 400 Maoris last night farowelled the local native contingent, T*-^ Rev. Wepiha, the chaplain, who comes °* a, gveat fighting stock, drilled the men, after which a patriotic speech was made by Ihaka Whaanga, a local chief of Rakaipaka, who fought for the Queen1 in the seventies. The troops leave on Moilday. They are a-fine lot and look fit.
