LONDON, Oct. 18

The Daily Chronicle's correspendent at Petrograd sends a report that it is unofficially stated that a great battle began on Monday. At first it seemed to go in favor of the Germans, but on Tuesday and Wednesday the Russians took the upper hand and repulsed the enemy, who were driven back in the direction of'Kielce. The German army was cut in two, the Russians capturing 10,000 prisoners and 42 cannon. PETROGRAD, Oct. 18. Official.—The Russians have assumed the offensive along the Vistula in GaKcia.
