AN ECHO OF THE TRAM STRIKE

SYDNEY, Oct. 17

An echo of the Brisbane tramway strike was heard at the High" Court, which upheld'the Brisbane and Adelaide Tramways Companies' application for prohibition against the enforcement of Justice Higgins' award in the tramway cases. The chief ground of the application was that the dispute did not extend beyond one State, and that in ordering preference to unionists and providing for Boards ©f Reference, the aAvard went beyond the powers of the Arbitration Court. The Tramway Association in various States is greatly disappointed at the result, which means that the whole fruits of the award will be lost. The executives will meet to consider the position.
