KOME, Oct. 16. | The Messagero's Petrograd correspondent states that the Austro-Germans were completely defeated near Warsaw, with great losses. PETROGRAD, Oct. 16. Official.—The Russians defeated, the Austrians south of Przemsyl. Five hundred were captured and several machine guns. The Russians are ceaselessly bombarding Przemsyl. (Yesterday's cables made it appear that the Russians had withdrawn from Przemsyl and the country south of it.) Three thousand Austrians made a sortie on Wednesday. A Russian regi~ment allowed the enemy to approach within easy range, and then opened fire with mitrailleuses, annihilating th»m. Fighting- is proceeding 30 miles west of Warsaw, where the German advance guard was repulsed after a severe engagement seven miles from the city. Russian cavalry beyond the Carpathians report a great exploit. One squadron intercepted a troop train. The commander leapt on the engine. and stopped the train. All the Hungarians were slain, and large supplies were captured.
