' A special meeting of the recentlyelected TOwil Board was,?tield on Monday evening, , when Commissioners Cocker, Free, /Harris, Riddle, and Anensen were' present. This being the first meeting, the Clerk, took the chair. Commissioner Harris proposed that Mr. T. J. T. Free be chairman, Commissioner Riddle seconding. Cmr. Anensen proposed Mr. Cocker. There was no seconder,. and on being put to. the meeting, Cmr. Free was declared elected.
Some discussion took place as to the advisableness of scarifying the Hawera road, but no decision was arrived, at.
Whilst dealing with Town Board matters I wish to contradict a malicious report that is being spread about the' town, hinting that I was the author of a local that appeared in the Taranaki Daily News of Thursday last. ; I certainly had no knowledge or coinec--tion with the matter. PATRIOTIC? FUND.
.The following are the latest additions to the patriotic fund: j. Crocker, •5- os, J.. T. Riddle; W- McL'dowie, W. J. Laurent, £5 each; F. Andrews, G. V. V. Riddle, J. Maeli, R. J. Ballantine, £1 each; W. Hair, Rev. Mr. Davies, 10s; H. Laurent, Mrs. Haddon, T. Corrigahj 5s each —this making a grand total for .Nonnanby. of '£134 19s 6d.
