The first meeting of the newlyelected Town Board was held on Thureday evening. Present: Crs Christie,Armitage, Meldon, Craig, Hunger, Donald and Bigham. Mr A. H. Christie was elected chairman and Mr J. Meldon deputy-chair-man. They thanked the members for appointing them to their respective positions, and stated that with the cooperation of the other members they would carry out their duties to tho> best of their ability. Messrs Hunt and Meuli, as a deputation ironi the Manaia Beautifying' Committee, waited on the* Board.' Mr Hunt stated that the A.C.'s tower at the Domain was now completed, but the money raised for that purpose was short to the extent of £21. He trusted that the Domain Board would see its* way-to help to the extent of the deficiency.—Mr Christie, as chairman of the Town Board, promised the deputation that their request 'would be duly considered, but as the Board Ha* not time to-go into the finances at tb.e present moment the matter would Ji>» dealt with «i the nest meeting of tEV" ■P-oard, which they intended holding the following week.—The deputation thanked the meeting and withdrew. The following committees were tnen appointed: Works Committee, Cm Hunger. Donald and Bigham; Ceme-. +cry Committee, Crs Bigham and Meldon: i The Clerk was instructed to write, to Messrs Basham and Scally, asking them to supply the Board with a rough estimate of the cost of tarring the- ' Main South road.
The meeting was adjourned .until next Thursday evening, in order that the finances and other matters might be looked into. BEAUTIFYING SOCIETY. A meeting of the Manaia Beautifying Committee was held at the Town ' Hall on Wednesday evening. Present: ■ Messrs Hunt (chairman), Meuli, Donald, Butler, and Candy. As notified at the previous meeting, Mr Meuli - moved that the resolution relating to the names of the committee being in-" sorted on the tablet of the AC.a . ' tower be rescinded. Seconded by Mr - Butler and carried. It was resolved to ask the Golf Club to pay the cost " of painting the block-house at the Do-' main, sometimes used by them. Messrs ',- Geo. Davrson and R. Franklin were unanimously elected members of the , ' commiteee. Mr Donald was authorised to obtain a quantity of .artificial • manure for laying out the grounds about the tower. The Chairman stated that as the tower was now completed he wished to take this opportunity of thanking Mr J. Meuli for ' ; the able manner in which, he had canvassed for donations to the tower. He . moved that a vote of thanks be,placed on record to that effect. Seconded"l>y *. Mr Donald and carried' unanimously.
