Answering a question by Mr J. C. Thomson, the Minister of Defence sayathat the services of the National Reserve have not been declined; on tie contrary, their enthusiasm and good work is fully appreciated by the Government. The supply of rifles is limited, and he" regrets beings .-unable i& •supply them to, the National Reserve without taking them from the senior cadets who are undergoing training. This he did not think advisable. Tfie Minister mentioned in reply to another member that if all members of rffla clubs, the membership of. which has increased enormously since . the ; : :odn^ mencement of the war, were supplied with rifles it would be necessary to deplete the senior cadets' 'rifle supplies, which he is' not prepared to do.
