NEW CLUB HOTEL

This fine new hotel (late Middleton's) is just nearing completion, and will be opened in all departments this week. It has been designed and f urnislied on. the most comfortable and modern lines, and will be a threat' boon to visitors to the popular Taranaki seaside resort. Mr A. E. Brunette, until recently in Blenheim, has acquired the freehold, and will personally conduct the business. The new , building : has been -erected in concrete, finished in rough, cast, and bias a substantial, businesslike appearance. Two specious vestibules—one from the Main South, road and the other from Havelock street-ylead into the main hall,1 and from this the main staircase starts and entrance also is gained to the dining room. The office is most conveniently placed in the front hall; and the commercial arid writing rooms, 25 x 20 and 10 x B£, are immediately alongside. From the Main South road the public "entering the boarding part of -the hotel or going into the dining room or commercial rooms do not pass within sight of the public bar. This js situated on the space enclosed by ,the two vestibules, and occupies & 6pace 31 x 26, with circular-shaped counter and with an artistically-design-ed liquor stand in the centre of the bar space. The dining-room measures' 33 x 25, furnished with a number of four-chair tables, and alongside is a large aiid conveniently-arranged kitchen. On the other wing facing Havelock street a large entrance gives access to 3 two parlors and the billiard room. Up a flight of well-lighted easy stairs leading from the main hall orie comes to "a spacious "lounge," 30 x 15, a great convenience in a modern hotel, and off this are two sittingrooms. The balance of the Upstairs- is occupied by bedrooms, neatly furnished and tastefully papered; also ladies' and gent's bathrooms, lavatories, etc. Special attention has been paid to ventilation throughout, and the vvhole building wired ready for electric lighting. Adequate fire escapes have been provided and provision made for the erection of a balcony right around the frontages. . > Mr J. A. Duffill, architect, of Hawera, planned and supervised the erection of the building, and. the general design both for public convenience and general appearance is a credit to Kirn, to Mr 'E.yf. Good, the builder, and to the seaside resort of Opunake.
