"BRANDED ON THE BROW."
LONDON, Sep. 21
Mr Asquith, in his speech, added that German culture had been branded on the brow by Louvain, Malines, and Termonde. The Power which claimed to impose her culture on Europe was the Power whose generals had revived the methods of warfare condemned by the civilised Avorld. A nation fed on lies could not succeed. He had long known that the British Empire must be preserved by war, and now the war had come there w rould be a fine renewal of her lease of Empire.
BRUSSELS, Sep. 21
A Gei'man general in Brussels has ordered the removal of the Belgian flags, as provocative to the Germans.
In connection with the German outrageSj witnesses vouched that a Uhlan officer sabred a man of 80 because he shook his fist at the intruding Germans, who took his wife of 78 years, slit her forearms, and fixed her with two bayonet thrusts to the wall in order to compel her to disclose the whereabouts of her money.
