HOLLAND'S SENTENCE.
STATEMENT BY MINISTER OF
JUSTICE
BY TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION. WELLINGTON, April 28. In connection with Holland's sentence, Mr Herdman informed a Post reporter that Holland had been convicted by a jury after a, careful i investigation, and it had not been seriously suggested b^ anyone that he had not been guilty of an offence The •Chief Justice passed a sentence which •he considered reasonable undc-r the "circumstances. He knew no reason, which would justify him in advising the Governor to interfere with the sentence imposed. To accede to the wishes of those who were petitioning ' for Holland's release would, bo to make the administration of justice ridiculous. "Thus was not 7 Holland's first offence, as he had been convicted on two other occasions. In Sydney in Aulgust, 1896. lie was convicted of criminal libel, and fined £50, in default three months-, arid at Albury in May, 1909, he was '•convicted 'of sedition and sentenced to two years. .
