SUDDEN DEATH OF A CADET.

BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION,

INVERCARGILL, April 27. A sad and most unwelcome incident occurred in connection with the cadet review by General Sir lan Hamilton here to-day. As the cadets were leaving the showgrounds after the review, where the inspection was held, a boy of about eighteen years, a member of the Mataura squad, named Thomas McDermott,. who was employed at Mataura, suddenly pitched forward and fell on his face. He was picked up and carried, to the hospital adjacent upon an improvised stretcher, but on examination life was found to be extinct. The doctor in charge of the institution has as yet been unable to give any definite information as to the cause of death, and it is not yet known whether a post mortem will be held. An inquest will, of course, be held.
