WHAKAMARA.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) On. Tuesday last the animal meeting of the Hall Company was held at the AVhakamara Public Hall. There was a good attendance and the report and balance-sheet for the year were read and confirmed. Nominations were taken for officers for the ensuing year. Ten persons were nominated for the seven vacancies and a ballot resulted in favor of the following: Messrs 0. Crawford, John Dobson, W. Yickery, W. Reed, John Potter, James Catchpole, and Stanley Buckerill. At a meeting of the new committee, held after the general meeting, Mr Crawford was elected chairman and Mr Dobson to the secretaryship. _ Mr P. Byrnes was eugaged as musician for the ensuing year. Opportunity was taken by the chairman to express his satisfaction for the services rendered by the retiring secretary, Mr George Milham who, he was , sorry to say, did not seek re-election. He had been an energetic worker for the good of the hall, and all would agree with him that by his retirement they had lost one of their best men. After, the business terminated dancing was indulged in for an hour or so, and then, as it was getting on for midnight, a start was made for home. So ended a very enjoyable evening. On Wednesday night Mr 0. E. Hugo gave a lecture at the hall. At the conclusion one lady and three men went on to the platform, and the general opinion was that the lecturer read, their characters pretty well, and that he must have had a good grip of his profession. , .- .
