MAYORAL ELECTION. TO THE BURGESSES OF THE BOROUGH OF HAWERA. T ADIES AND GENTLEMEN, -■~* As I have publicly intimated, I am a candidate for the position of Mayor of the Borough of Hawera. I may mention that I have been a member of the Council practically for the last 27 years, during which long period I have given time and attention to the requirements of the Borough. I consider, therefore, that I may fairly claim that my candidature is entitled to your earnest and favourable consideration. As you are all aware, the Borough ha-s recently floated a £30,000 loan for various works in the Borough, viz., sewage, asphalting, streets and footpaths, kerbing and channelling( which loan has always had my sympathy and support. The whole of this loan i» allotted, proportionately, to every part of the Borough, and it will be my endeavour to see that this loan is expended according to the schedule as placed before the ratepayers at the time when sanctioned, and, farther, I intend to use every effort to see that this' loan will be wisely and economically expended, and that every penny of the loan will give an equivalent to the ratepayers. The works of the Borough have been under my supervision as; Chairman of the; Works Committee for the last ten years, and I am therefore thoroughly conversant as to how the work should be carried out. Ladies and Gentlemen, I place myself in your hands, and if you honour me with your confidence, my every effort will be in your interests, ' . Yonrs obediently, HUGH K. WHITTINGTON.
