Here is a true story from London that illustrates the woes of the rich. Eight months ago a man, who numbers his indoor and outdoor servants by the score, dismissed one of his footmen for insobriety. Last week while taking an afternoon stroll through some of his woods, he came suddenly face to face with the dismissed footman. He questioned the man, and discovered that he was still 1 living in the house, as if nothing had happened. He had lived thus for seven months, receiving no wages, of course, but also doing no work. "Esprit de corps" had prevented the other -servants fvom "giving him away," and but foF th.3 meeting in the. woods he might have remained .•ndefinitely, living luxuriously for nothing.
