The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co , Ltd., Hawera Branch, report as follows : We held our usual fortnightly sale at our Kakaramea yards on the 20th inst. Hardly as much stock as usual came iorward and bidding was not quite as spirited as usual. However, we managed to place most of the stock yarded. Fat cows brought £6 10s to £6 17s; fresh conditioned cows £5 6s to £5 16s; forward cows, £4 12s to £4 18s; store cows, £3 3s to £3 14s; boners, £1 10s to £2 ss; bulls, £1 7s 6d to £5; 20-months steers, £4 6s; 15-months steers (pool condition), £3 8s 6d to £3 10s 6d; weaner heifers, £1 to £1 7s 6d; forward lambs, 9s; store lambs (small), 7s 7d; f.m. store ewes, 10s; cull ewes, 5s 3d. At Eltham, on the 22nd inst., we had s a fairly good yarding of stock and good competition. The major portion of the stock yarded changed hands at satisfactory prices. Fat cows (light) brought £6 to £6 12s; fresh conditioned cows, £5 5s to £5 14s; forward cows, £4 8b tc £5; store cows, £3 5s to £4 Is; boners, £1 10s to £2 17s 6d; bulls (heavy). £6 5s to £7 17s 6d; do (light), £3 10s to £5 10s; springing dairy heifers, £5 12s 6d to £6; 18-month steers, £3 13s 6d; 15-months Shorthorn heifers in calf, £3 10s to £3 12s 6d; 15-months empty heifers, £2 12s 6d; 15-months steers, £3 5s 6d; colored weaner heifers, £1 11s 6d to £1 15s; weaner steers, £1 6a to £1 14s; weaner heifers, 18s 6d to £1 7s; store ewes, 10s 9d; weaner pigs, 9s. At Hawera on the 23rd inst., we had an exceptionally heavy yarding of cattle, over 1000 head being penned. These comprised mostly cows and: young stock. There was a large attendance of buyers and a fairly good allround demand. With the exception of a few pens of cows and young stock, everything was disposed of before leaving the yards.
