HOLLAND'S SENTENCE

DUNEDIN, April 25. A deputation of representatives of labor unions, headed by the Hon. J. T. Paul, waited on the Hon. James Allen and urged that the Government should recommend the Governor to mitigate some portion of the sentence on Henry Holland, for the reasons that the offence was committed at *a time of abnormal excitement; that the law had been vindicated, and the exercise of clemency would strengthen the law and enthrone justice.; on account of Holland's health. The Minister said the Cabinet had no wish to be vindictive, and that he would have pleasure in telegraphing the subject of the interview to the Premier.
