BAND CARNIVAL
TO BE HELD IN JULY
A largely attended and enthusiastic meeting of ladies, together with members of the Hawera Municipal Band, was held in the Borough Chambers on Thursday evening to meet Professor Card-aton, to confer with reference to holding a carnival in aid of the funds of the band. The matter was fully discussed and it was finally decided to hold a carnival, similar to those recently concluded in Wanganui and Now Plymouth, and to have a Queen. The carnival will commence on July 27, and nominations will shortly be .invited for the election of a Queen, which will be decided by popular vote. The following stalls were decided upon: Fancy, Mrs E. Jones and Mrs L. S. Tarrant • refreshment, Mrs T. B. McGonnell and Miss Richardson; cigarette and tobacco, Miss Teague and Miss Costley; sweets, Mrs Gillman and Mrs Grace, produce, Mrs Teague, Mrs Sergeant, and Miss Costley. Several other stnlls have yet to be arranged.

Professor Cardsfon left this morning for Masterton. where he is arranging a similar carnival, and will return to Hawera to go Into further details.
A grand beginning was made last evening, which augurs well for the success of the carnival.
