BILLIARDS.
At the new billiard parlor in High street on Friday evening, Miss Ruby Roberts, the world's champion lady billiardist, gave an exhibition game, conceding Mr C. E. Hollard 200 in 500.. .;I*he .play for the first few minutes was disappointing;. both missing some easy chances, and the lady cham- j pion's best break in the first century. was 23. She demonstrated some pretty run-through shots, but her opponent; was only getting an occasional i first-class stroke, and was not neai-ly up to his usual form. Miss Roberts reached 150 to her opponent's 116, and her second century to Hollard's 151. She then made 34, 30 being off the ;red, and brought her score up to 246 to her opponent's 351 (151—200). Hollard then scored more consistently, including breaks of 15 and 18, the latter being nice all-roiind-the-table play, but JWTiss Roberts came up again with a fine 52. making excellent use of the losing hazard; and the scores read 335_404. In the next few minutes' play Hollard; made two 13's and minor scores> and Jrfiss Roberts 19 and 27, the latter being nearly all off the red, and brought the scores to 406—444. Hollard now r had the best of scoring for a brief interval, and carried his score to 481' against Miss Roberts' 431. . The lady player again earned a warm round of applause for a pretty screw back in-off-the-red shot, and immediately ran up 35 in finished jailround play, making the scores 475— 485. i One or iwo apparently easy shots were-- missed 'by^ the; lady arid' likewise by Hollard, but Miss Roberts came to light again with .21, placed her score in the lead, 496—490. and she g?ve .her opponent a possible chance, but he "just missed the 'cannon, and the lady champion ran out amidst a hearty round of applause. The game occupied one and a-half hours. •i Mi,ss Roberts gave some flashes of exceedingly pretty play, and executed some pretty shots. She was strong on the red ball play and the run through and potting, but "was not so £ood on cannons, where Hollard proved to be much the better in' last night's play. There was a. very fair attendance to watch the play, and impartial appreciation was shown of each good stroke.
