A WOMAN'S DEATH

AUCKLAND, March 3
A woman named McLeod was found dead in bed at her residence, Wakefield street, this morning. She was married, but had been living apart from her husband. A man named Wood resided in the same house wjth her. When, he awoke at 4.30 o'clock this morning, he found that Mrs McLeod was dead, evidently the result of having taken poison. "He reported the matter to the police. An inquest was held before Mr Cutten, coroner.
William Reuben Woods said that he came home about 9.30 last night, slightly under the influence of liquor. The woman McLeod did not go to bed. At about 10 o'clock she went out and brought in a constable. He did Dot know why the constable came or how long he stayed. He went., to sleep shortly -afterwards, and did not wake until 4.30 a.m. He saw deceased lying on the floor and found that she was dead. He summoned the police.
The constable stated that he was called in last night by McLeod, who alleged that her "husband" was "rowing" with her. Dr Casement Aicken said that death was due to poison. There were two bruises on the body, one on the hip and one on the arm. The jury returned a verdict of death from poison taken while mentally depressed.
