SHACKLETON'S EXPEDITION.

LONDON, Feb. 6

Sir E. Shackleton has decided to purchase the recently-built Norwegian ice vessel Polaris, to be converted to use oil fuel and renamed the Endurance, .and employed under Davis' command in the Weddell Sea. The Aurora will probably be selected for the Ross Sea side; failing her, Peary's Roosevelt is under offer. The Endurance will be manned by Navy men, the Ross Sea ship by merchant service men, with Captain Ordelees, of the Royal Marines, at the head. Deal, motor school expert and alpinist, has joined the expedition, and several of Scott's and Mawson's men have applied. Two of the latter have been selected for the scientific1 staff.
