DROWNED IN THE SURF.

BY TBIEGTUPH—P.tFSS ASSOCIATION. CHRISTCHTJRCH, Jan. 29. The body cf William George Morris, who was drowned in the safety area whilst bathing in the surf at New Brighton en Monday, was recovered at about two o'clock this afternoon on the New Brighton side of . the- Sumner estuary by Constable'; Hampton, 'of Sumner. The body was taken to. the Chrisiehurch morgue and 'an inquest held. A verdict was returned of accidental drowning. The suggestion had been made that the: deceased, arid; his 'companion,- "who was rescued,".- were under the influence of liquor when' they went into the water, but the latter said they had not had a drink that day.
