Those people who have designated the local tennis court ' 'The School Committee's Monument," will have the satisfaction of seeing it opened next Wednesday afternoon, and those who have described the court as a "barren spot* will perhaps rejoice on that occasion ,to* see that this pessimistic view lias not received fulfilment. The' tennis club intends to hold a working bee on Saturday, when it is hoped, that there will be sufficient helpers to complete themiuor details, which are necessary. That, tennis is booming here may be gathered from the fact that one firm which deals in racquets, has stated its inability to> supply orders.
f hear that it is proposed to ask candidates at the forthcoming election campaign to use their best endeaovprs toy have the Societies Act so amended thafcit shall .provide that all hall societies shall hold their meetings at least one*a year instead of quarterly as at present ; the reason being that it is thoughtto be to great a tax upon those who>< generously devote their time to the service of the town.
The weather during the past month has been very warm, and haymakingrhas been in full swing. . At 'time of writing, however, the weather will be of". great benefit to this district.
