WELLINGTON, Jan. 24. A conference between representatives °t ?> c Domini?n's harbor boards and the_Prime Minister was held yesterday at Parliament Buildings, to discuss th(j question" of'the control of labor on the wharves. Those present represented the harbor boards of Auckland Wellington, Otago, and Lytteltonf .Mr t r. • t^- Rowley, secretary of' the Labor Department, also attended.. MiMas^ presided. After a lengthy discussion resolutions were carried. disapproving , the constitution of any new authority, but that the powers of harbor boards should be somewhat increased; also that as the employment of a large proportion of waterside workers as casuals leads to industrial difficulties, this conference is of opinion ■''■'■ that wherever practicable the waterside workers should be pernianent employees of either the harbor board or the shipowners; and, further^ that it is desirable that; superannuation should be arranged1 for-suGh employees. , - ..."
