- m i . TARANAJU WOOL, SKIN, HIDE AND TALLOW SALES-. Mr Newton. King reports:—On Tuesday, Dexember 16", I held my usual sale of above produce, the catalogue comprising 140 bales sod 168 sack*/wool, MSL/Sheepakins, 1207 hides, 27 casks, 57 tins, 1 sack and 1 drum' iallo#, 3325 calfskins, besides the usual assortment of lair, tails, etc. Consequent on there being no sale last month, there was double the*quantity of produce offering. There was. a full attendance of buyers, . competition throughout the sale being very keen and spirited for all lines. Wool.—Owing to the unsettled state of the weather interfering with shearing, I had not the full catalogue, I anticipated. In sympathy with the decline at the. recent London sales, -and which was reflected at, all the opening sates throughout the Dominion, prices, in comparison . with my December sale of last year, showed a drop of one, penny to one : penny farthing; the comparison, however/ in other «entrea was even higher, up to two pence being recorded. Growers appear to be prepared to face the situation, and in this respect I have to report practically .-a full clearance of the whole catalogue. Some of the sales were 14 and 10 bale clips, B£d; 16, 8, and 6, 8d; 9 fcale clip, 7J. Sheepskins.—ln sympathy with the drop in the wool market, these showed a decline of one penny per lb. Gabled reports now being received of the present London sheepskin sale indicate a decline of id to Jd for crossbred skins, so that vendors are assured that! prices ■f&lised at this sale are well up to> market values. Hides.—ln sympathy with the drop in other markets these showed an all-round dech'ne. Light ox were gd and heavies Jd to Id lower; cow |d to jd lower. Yearlings were firm at late rates. , The fall in. prices is partly ac. Counted for on'^account .of the labor troubles extending to Sydney, where' many hides' are forwarded for transhipment to America. Exporters have consequently had to ease off buying on .account of accumulation of produce. Tallow.—Market unsettled, par to 10s per ton lower. " ■' . * Calfßkins.r-These showed a decline of id to lsd per lb. Some six weeks ago I had sound enquiries for these, and had it not been for the prolongation of the strike (more especially as regards its extension to Sydney) clients would undoubtedly have received record returns. On account of there being no assured Bailings for America, where the bulk of the calfskins are ■shipped, these special offers were withdrawn.
