RED WORK AND ITS RESULTS
Wellington papers give the follow-; ing: ... : ."■•■■, The T7nrted Labor party,, in- setting out the facts of the late strike, concludes an i official statement as follows: "A plain survey of the situation must convince the public and all; true unionists that the United Federation ,of Labor's revolutionary policy is one of disruption in the Labor movement and of deliberate »anai;ehy in affepting the public interests. Through the Federation's advocates in the WaterSide Workers' Union they broke their, own union ruies, tore up their constitution; disordered agreements; they had made, and plunged themselves.and their fellow-woi-kers and the whole country into serious troubled The existence iof. this propaganda of irre*: sponsible revolutionary action has destroyed many workers' unions, which took years of hard toil to create. •; . ...' If sound trades unionism is to live it can only be by a straight-out repudiation of the doctrines and methods of insane revolution. Workers must return to the constructive lines of action which enabled the trades cou.icils in the past to secure most of "the labor legislation we possess. Our •unions must'federate together in oie, not to violate or oppose the law of I our country, Twit to uphold the law and make it better for our people -.s a whole." '
Mr Foster,, chairman of the Defence Committee, declares that the present is no time for recriminations. He' personally would be glad to give reemployment to any men who had been forced into the strike. The employers recognised the men's right to. strike under certain conditions, but did rot recognise the right to break the law, jeopardise the welfare of the community, andi cause tbe dislocation of industries by means of' the sympathy strike. The festive s£a§on was opportune for extending the hand of good fellowship to 'those men whose conduct had been \vithin proper bounds. iit the same time the employers would liot condone the preaching of violence md miscoucluct of aziv kind.
