He .grew worse later in the night ahd.; a servant was hurriedly despatched -for a ydbctor. Cardinal Merry-del Val suggested postponing news to the Pope until next day, fearing shock. - Despite precautions, however, the Pope heard •Cardinal Rampolla's name coupled -with remarks about indisposition. The Pope was at first unable to believe that •lie' was dead, having seen him on Saturday, apparently in his usual health.
