HAWERA STARR-BOWKETT SOCIETY.

ANNUAL MEETING

The eleventh annual meeting of th e Hawera Starr-Bowkett Building Society was held at the office of the secretary (Mr R. S. Sage) on Tuesday evening. There was a very good nl tendance, and Mr R. W SSrge^t (chairman of. directors) presided. -Ihe annual report stated that the proht for the year amounted to £216 6s 3d which had been made on the actual working of the Society, there being no share forfeitures during the per£ d' c n«i? g this BUm *<> previous £2731 13s Id to credit of profit and loss account for eleven years' work i There now remained on the share regis- ' ter 383 shares, of which 128 are app uopria^-, 9 f these appropriated shares 24 had ceased subscriptions, forfeiting their right to participate in the profits, and leaving 359 shares to divide the sum of £2731 18s Id. This year the Society had eighteen appropriations of -£150 each; nine by ballot and nine by sale, making a total since the inception of the Society of 156 appropriations of the value of £23,400. . The Chairman, moved the adoption of the report, and congratulated the Society on the satisfactory work of the year. , " » Mr I\" seconded the motion, which was carried. Messrs F^Squire, J. Rauch, and H. D. Caple'n were re-elected to the directorate,, Mr .. J. W. Harding was re-elected shareholders' auditor. ; The directors' remuneration was fixed ,at £25.the same as last year. ■ Mr / Harding enquired if anything further had been done with reference to* the formation of a second group. The Chairman: I am 6orfy to say it is not progressing very well. He added tnat the secretary liad been short-handed, and Had not been able to do much in this direction, but the directors had not lost sight of the matter, and hoped to proceed further at the beginning of the year. The Secretary said he hoped to make ;a personal canvass shortly. At a meeting of directors afterwards,Mr R. W. Sargent was unanimously re-Helected chairman of ' directors. ' " ■""■■'• •• :-.
