AMERICAN ATHLETES.

CHRISTCHURCH, Dec. 14. In view of the visit of the American athletes to New Zealand, an athletic meeting arranged by the amateur athletic clubs of Canterbury was held at Lancaster Park, 'at which the Americans competed. The going was heayy. The attendance of the public was disappointing. The Americans made a fair showing, but in most of the events were too heavily 1 handicapped. The ' principal feature, of the day was a race between G. P.: Keddell, the: New. Zealand champion, ond Templeton, the American crack, in their heat in the 120 yard* hurdles handicap, the New Zealand man getting home by a bare margin. The 75 yards invitation race between Templeton: and Kecftlell was aban- . doned. owing to Keddell being unwell during the afternoon. Exhibitions of javelin and discus throwing and of pole-vaulting were given by the visitors. .» *■
