MEMORIAL TO CAPTAIN SCOTT'S PARTY.

The ceremony of laying the foundation stone of a cairn to be erected to the memory of Captain Scott and his party took place on Saturday at Port Chalmers. The cairn will occupy a commanding site on the hills overlooking Port Chalmers,* and will be a conspicuous object viewed from nearly all parts of the town, and also from ships entering the harbor. When complete it will reach a height of 30ft. . Captain Scott was a member of the English constitution of Freemasons, -and the Port Chalmers Borough Council asked the District Grand Lodge of •Otago and Southland to carry out the ■■ laving of the stone. Members of other ! constitutions 'were also^P^esfrit. The ceremony was performed by R. \\ .D.G.M. Bro. T. S. Graham, assisted by other officers of the District Grand Lodge.
