ALLEGED CUSTOMS FRAUDS
ARRESTS IN CHRISTCHURCH

. CHRISTCHURCH Dec. 2. This morning Detective Gibson ■ arrested three men, who are charged with having commitie'd theft by means of Customs frauds. One man is an officer in the lo?al branch of the Customs Department, and another, is a Customs., agent in this city. \ :■ It is stated that the officer certified thai large quantities of dutiable goods were free, and that the specified duty was charged to merchants, who bought the goods,. ,_l£ ; is not known yet what sum is involved. Investigations are still being made in that direction, but the information already \ available shows that the sum is a. very large one. \ ' :•'-•■.. ,: The accused will be brought before the Magistrate's Court to-morrowy The men arrested are J. Anderson Campbell Customs officer; H. h. Greene, Customs agent; and S. J. McCormac^, Customs agent. ■ ; -,;.
