COASTAL STEAMERS.
WELLINGTON, Oct. 8
The secretary of the Merchant Service Guild, has been advised by the Shipowners' Federation that the owners are not prepared to consider the question of payment of overtime for masters and officers or coastal steamers, but if there are any special circumstances to urge in favor of a modification of the existing agreement, they will be considered. The Guild will probably endeavor to arrange a conference with the shipowners to discuss the whole question.
