HOROWHENUA MAORIS V. TARA-

NAKI MAORIS

The match, which was played at Bayly Park on afternoon, proved an easy win for Horowhenua by 12 points to nil. Taranaki won the toss, and during the first spell played with the wind in their favor. "On starting Horowhenua (Red) immediately assumed the aggressive, and as a result J. Scisscis was enabled to notch their first try. The Reds again attacked until a free kick gave relief, but for a short time only. At last Puketapu headed a great Taranaki rush which almost resulted in a try. Play returned to mid-field, and the whistle blew for half-time with the scores reading, Horowhenua 3, Taranaki 0. On_resuming Taranaki pressed hotly, but their heavier'opponents gradually wore them down until they were defending with the energy of despair. The Reds were awarded a free kick, and Wakn registered a neat goal. Kohu and C. Scisscis scored a try each, bringing the score up. to Horowhenua 12, Taranaki 0. Taranaki then played up and Horowhenua were defending for the remainder of the game. No further score 'resulted. Mr A. Hunter refereed to the satisfaction of both sides. The visitors proved superior to the home team in every department of the game, what little combination Taranaki had being spoilt by Skipper hanging on too long.
