CLAIMS FOR CONSIDERATION.
BT TELEGRAPH— PRESS ASSOCIATION WELLINGTON, Sept.' 4. A deputation from the Secondary techooL ieachers' Association waited oa the Minister for Education (Hon J Allen) to-day to press their claims for consideration in the matter-of superannuation • and salaries. They desire* that the former should be counted or* the highest three years' salary as with; Civil Servants, and not "oil the last three years. It .was urged that the strai* was too great to permit teachers continuing at work till the highest salarywas reached. A scale of salaries w^ proposed under which for the first year a master would begin at £220 and a mistress at £180, and would reach ia the tenth year to £365 and £295.. After ten year* the annual increments to be* £15 an.3 £10, till £515 and £400 wa» reached. Instances were given of l«>w salaries and1 injustices inflicted. ' The cost was estimated: at £25,000 to £30 000 a year: It -fas stated that only seven out of 208 teachers were receiving over £300* per year. Mr Allen returned a sympathetic reply. Tmt held out that there w»jr no feope of ait immediate alteration. The Mniister said he desired to make their lot better, and the promise was not an idle one.
