FURTHER EVIDENCE
BY TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION. WELLINGTON, Sept. 4. The Royd Garlick Committee resumed this afternoon. Mr Wilford cross-examined Tvlr Garlick, who said that he had become a member of the Australian Masseurs' Institute without competition. He had not passed any examination in Swedish drill and had no certificate from any physical school with a legal standing. Dr Mac Gill, who recommended him for a position on the Committee of Advice, was a former pupil. Major Hume was also a former pupil. Dr HardwickeSmith, the other medical man who recommended him, was officer, in charge at the hospital where he (Garlick) was honorary masseur. He did not pretend to be an expert in the advanced Swedish drill system, but had some knowledge of the principles of the system. He was not making £600 net when appointed. He had no idea when sitting on the Committee of Advice that the position of Director would be created. j Re-examined by Mr Allen as to his income, lie said that he must have been earning 15630 net when appointed. On information supplied it was fair that Mr Allen should assume that he was making at least £600. Major Hume said that he. had frequently seen Garlick work and thought him the most capable man in the profession. He thought he was thoroughly grounded in the principles of the Swedish drill. He was well pleased with Mr Garlick's management of the children's classes.
